A Coffee Lover’s Guide To Cupping, Aromas, Body & More

Learn more about the coffee profiles in each of your delicious cups.

The Coffee Profile

When you look at our coffee packages, you’ll notice a section that says “Cup Profile”. These descriptions give coffee lovers a better understanding of the flavor/taste, aroma, and body of the coffee they drink. Since coffee varies from farm to farm, region to region, country to country, and crop to crop, cupping is an excellent assessment tool. This guide will give you a basic understanding of how The Coffee Farmer’s Co-op organic coffee cup profiles are built.

Coffee Cupping

Cupping notes are standardized descriptors used during a formal cupping process to create a sensory-rich picture of the coffee. A coffee cupping, also known as a coffee tasting, is comparable to a wine tasting. It is a professional practice of observing a coffee's tastes and aromas to determine how it cups.

Cupping entails smelling the coffee, moving it around in the mouth to get a sense of its body (or texture), and slurping the coffee to aerate the brew. All of these methods aid in determining the characteristics of the coffee. Some of these characteristics include aroma, body, and flavor/taste.

Coffee Aroma

Aroma is an important aspect of the coffee tasting experience beginning with the grinding of the coffee. The aroma of something has a significant impact on how it tastes.

Our eco-friendly coffee aromas can be associated with an infinite number of other things. It is critical to pay attention to the aroma of a coffee, whether it is fruity, floral, sweet, or spicy.

Coffee Body

The body of coffee is described as the weight and texture of it. Some coffees have a thick, viscous body, whereas others are light or watery. This texture influences how the other flavors are perceived.

Coffee Flavor/Taste

The body of coffee is described as the weight and texture of it. Some coffees have a thick, viscous body, whereas others are light or watery. This texture influences how the other flavors are perceived.
